Everything you might want to know before (or while) playing LingoGuessr.
Are the sentences and speakers always the same?
No – for every language we have several sentences recorded by different
speakers, so you won't just memorize one clip per language. Rounds pull a random sentence from a
different voice each time, which keeps things fresh even if you play the same language again.
Is LingoGuessr free to play?
Yes. The core game – Daily Challenge, all difficulty tiers, and casual
multiplayer – is free with no download and no login required. A paid Pro/Unlimited tier exists for
people who want extra perks like coins for cosmetics and sabotage items, but it's entirely optional.
Do I need to create an account?
You can jump straight into singleplayer and casual multiplayer without
signing up. Creating a free account lets you keep track of stats, achievements, your world map
progress, and ranked league standing across devices.
How does scoring work?
After you place a pin, your score is based on how close it is to the actual
location the clip was recorded in – the closer your guess, the more points you earn, up to a
maximum per round. Landing inside the correct country gives a solid bonus on top of the
distance-based score.
What languages are included?
LingoGuessr covers 150+ languages and regional accents from every inhabited
continent, ranging from major world languages to regional and minority languages, plus a separate
Ancient Languages mode for extinct and classical languages.
Can I play with friends?
Yes – multiplayer lets you create a private lobby and share a join code or
link with friends. Besides casual lobbies there's ranked 1v1 and 2v2 with a league system, plus twist
modes like Lightning (speed-based scoring), Sudden Death, and Sabotage.
Does LingoGuessr work on mobile?
Yes, the game runs directly in your mobile browser – no app install needed.
All modes, including multiplayer, work on phones and tablets.
What is the Daily Challenge?
A fixed set of five rounds that's the same for everyone each day. Everyone
gets the same clips, so you can compare your score with friends – results are shareable in a
Wordle-style summary without spoiling the answers.
